Summer has finally announced its imminent arrival in Iceland, and I went this weekend with some friends to Mt. Esja, a popular hiking destination just outside Reykjavík. It’s about 1000 meters high at the summit, and the walk/climb to the top was pretty brutal for my woefully out-of-shape body. With some brief rest stops, getting to the top wasn’t so bad. However, the trip left my legs a bit jellied, and that in combination with my poor choice of footwear made the descent very taxing.
I think once I buy a set of proper hiking boots, I may make a regular occurrence out of this hike.
